The book on which this mini series is based is terrific. But after watching the first episode with high hopes, I’m giving this one star because there was no lower rating option available. The opening sequence of the American bombardment of this city by the sea, and subsequent scenes of death and destruction are so fake looking, and the acting skills of the main characters, especially Marie as a teenager, are poor at best. I found the writing tiresome and repetitive (how many times do we need the title of the book/series explained?!) and the general storytelling and production format disjointed… unlike the book which seamlessly told a compelling tale of a brave girl’s struggle in her war-torn homeland. Skip the series. Read the book!
