I get it's an American sci-fi movie and it gets associated with a common American tragedy of school shootings. I've seen the movie in theatres back in the days and I was a teenager. I have never associated the movie with shooting people ? That's why I find this documentary to be a bit sinister in that sense. It's a sci-fi movie with action genre heavily sprinkled on it so it can reach a wider audience passing as a simple entertainment and offering a different aspect on our understanding of reality. It's suppose to evoke philosophical thinking not violence. But there are some interesting lines in the documentary as well that was thought-provoking and expanding the thought behind simulation theory.
