This show, while attempting an experience close to the written book, is rather poor on delivery. The majority of the actors portray bland performances, with only a few standouts. It's hard to feel connected to any of them.
Unfortunately, the main protagonist, Paul Atreides(Mau"Dib) is not charming at all in this adaptation. There is no desire to like him. Frank Herbert's message of being wary of the charismatic leader is utterly lost in this series due to flat acting. You never feel drawn to Paul's character.
This is the same with Duke Leto. There is no swagger to convince you to be invested in him or feel emotionally drained by his fate.
Nothing about mentats is explained or even signifying who is one and why.
The musical score that backs the episodes is just as low key. It does not build tension for key scenes at all. It just drones along.
The 1984 film, underservedly maligned, has a far better grasp on engaging the viewer. Shorter in length than theses sy fy episodes, you'd be much greater served watching that to get the grand world building scale the novel offers.
