Visually, Materialists is undeniably stunning — the cinematography and set design were a real highlight. But beyond the aesthetics, everything else felt underwhelming. The soundtrack was forgettable at best and distracting at worst, doing little to enhance the mood or story. There was a noticeable lack of humour, which left the film feeling emotionally flat, especially given its already dark and somewhat depressing premise. The acting was passable, but no performance truly stood out. Overall, it’s a film that looks great on the surface but lacks depth where it really counts.
