I rarely have the desire to write a film review, but Rūrangi has left me feeling inspired. This film is impressive. The writers and directors of this screenplay have gifted the actors the time and space to really flourish in their element. The final product is a story that takes you through a series of twists and turns; evoking every one of our basic emotions. Nothing about the execution feels rushed or forced. As an observer, you’re able to relate to each character on a very human level as they navigate grief, fear, anger, and disappointment. Peppered throughout the journey are glowing moments of happiness and laughter, followed by a gratifying finish of triumph. If your cinematic experience is anything like mine, then get ready for a room filled with enthusiastic applause.
