This isn't just a movie--it's a brilliant experience, aimed at the part of you which lives between the worlds of men and make-believe. No matter what he does, I suspect Tim Burton is aiming straight for your heart, through colorful and meaningful character journeys with happy endings. So far he's hooked me with Pee Wee's Big Adventure (please don't pooh-pooh this movie--it's one hilarious sketch and surprise after another), and then brilliant Big Fish, a career masterpiece. I first saw this movie shortly after it was released and have been checking on Netflix and Amazon Prime for years; and finding I'd only be able to see it again by paying for a stream of it, I bought the DVD because I had to see it again and now I can watch it whenever I want to. The only two other movies I've watched as much as I have this one are The Wizard of OZ and Enemy Mine, a remarkable movie from 1985 starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett, Jr. which is much more story, acting and heart than any other movie called "science fiction". These are my four favorite movies of all time. Guaranteed to make you feel better than when you started them if not change you. Big Fish will make you feel good. Watch it in one sitting. Then watch it again. It's that remarkable.
