I enjoyed reading this book and learning how families in the Smokies were greatly impacted by the Civil War. My ancestors from both sides came through the Smoky Mountains and settled in Cocke & Sevier counties in the late 1700's. My maternal great great grandfather was a farmer in Sevier county and fought in the Civil War. The book helped me get a 'picture' of the extreme difficulties faced by soldiers and their families during that time.
