(Spoiler review)
Things I disliked about this movie:
1. The scene where it is announced on TV that Joker will be facing the death penalty and it cuts to an imaginative scene of him singing. Why was this needed?
2. Harley Quinn at the end of the movie, completely switches up on Joker and says she doesn't want to be with him anymore - displaying signs of her only liking Joker for being Joker. They completely switched roles. It was always the Joker who forced Harley Quinn to be Harley Quinn, this role reverse was unnecessary and quite sad to encounter.
3. Should've put this before (2) but the fact that Joker stayed with Harley after she lied to him, and then got completely f*cked over in the end (not necessarily bad scriptwriting or anything, just annoyed the hell outta me).
4. THE BOMB. The goddamn BOMB. At the time I was convinced that Harley came back, changed her mind about him and blew up the courtroom in her attempts to get him out. Feels like this is how it should have been done. They could have ended with their toxic romance continuing AND still have Joker killed at the end. But, some random Joker fans did it? Ugh.
Things I LOVED about this movie:
1. The cinematography, the lighting, the cut from scene to scene, extraordinary filming.
2. Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal, as usual. Lady Gaga also was brilliant.
3. The outfits, the makeup, the cast in general. Loved how Brendan Gleeson was in it!
4. The courtroom scenes. Really put viewers on the edge and added that shock value, specifically when all the tension at the end was added.
5. One of the songs between Lady Gaga and Joker, "the mountain" only song that felt added any true value to the film. Beautiful.
The things I disliked about the film are merely from My own point of view and disappointment, and my unnecessary expectations, so take that with a grain of salt.
I feel like Todd Phillips took advantage of Joaquin's pure, raw emotional talent that he embedded in the first movie. After seeing it, I wish Joker stood on its own as a cinematic masterpiece. I've seen that film about 6 or 7 times, I probably will never watch Joker: Folie a Deux again.
