I would have liked this movie a lot more if Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth were in it…
Anne was probably written that way (snivelling, drunk, impertinent, sometimes nasty, and utterly convinced she’s “not like other girls”) because she is meant to be a stand in for the audience… so, the writer went out of their way to insult us. Fred wasn’t as bad but that’s more because they forgot to write him a personality.
For all the stylistic choices I though Bridgerton-ing it should have worked to make the story accessible to a modern audience. You didn’t have to murder the romantic leads to do it.
