I've been Alien fan for close to 35 years now since I saw Aliens with my mum when I was 10. I went into this with low expectations because antime studios try to keep pushing an older franchise they tend to not do a good job of it. I had seen the high score here and some Alien insta pages talking it up. I went to see it today and I was just underwhelmed despite my low expectations. What I didn't like: The nod to previous movies So we see this a lot in these older franchises, they try to connect the movie or sometimes just do something to make a nod to a previous movie for the fans. Alien vrs Predator 2 did this to a terrible level.. it seemed more like mockery and just bad use music/lines etc Romulus did this.. Now that's not to say somethings were good becuase they fit. Such as the hatches.. as this takes place between Alien and Aliens, to see those old hatches gave me that 'oh no not in there please' buzz to it. However.. using iconic lines like 'get away from her you B' was just terrible. So forced and out of place. To me its less of a nod and its just lazziness and poor use. Don't use it at all tbh This was done WAY and I mean WAY too many times throughout. Again we see another Android that turns to against human and this time is easily turned back. Like do you have to keep copy pasting the same idea everytime. Seeing the Ash type character back was kind cool but I felt they should have kept that to a minimum. Reusing a bad guy everyone knew seems again like a cheap fan bait tactic. And just a few more times i rolled my eyes.. > An alien being sucked out into space AGAIN > Nearly leaving but then going back for someone (next/android this time) > got to get that shot witht he gun and hair blowing just like ripley coming out of the elevator > another alien ressurection type hybrid thing at the end ----------------------------------------------------------- What I did like > Seeing life on the mining planet and just how trash the company was.. like the suddenly doubling her time. I thought that was a great addition and further showing the scumminess of WY > The mention of prometheus and the little lines from the main theme. That worked well as its part of the story line and wasn't horribly wedged in like the points i high lighted above. > The aliens coming out of the... well its giger inspired so we know its a V, something we've nothing seen before. I thought that was the best part in the whole move.. it looked great and the way it unfolded and stretched itself out etc. Really well done. -------------------------------------------------- This movie had about 10% max originality to it and no horror etc
