Cinematography was great, but all of the cons overshadowed the pros for me.
Dr. Stone had only 6 months of experience, and was allowed into space. She was breathing hard the entire time and it got so annoying. You would think she would know to remain calm. Because she didn't follow directions AND was super slow, 4 of her crew mates died. I could not get emotionally attached to her and it all felt like a waste of time. There was no character development and she just frustrated me the entirety of the movie.
Not only this, but some of the physics in the movie were a little questionable and not entirely accurate. Anyone not studying astrophysics would be oblivious to it, but to those who do it is just a little bothersome. Still, it is not my focus and what really ruined the movie was the protagonist.
She should have never been sent into space and did not deserve to live over her peers. And in the end she is laughing, happy to be alive. Due to her ignorance, 4 lives were taken and its like nothing to her. After such a traumatic experience I don't think I would be laughing. I would be crying and full of guilt that I, the slowest and dumbest of all, made it out alive while my crew mates did not.
It was just an overall frustrating and annoying experience. I really expected to be blown away, but even the cinematography couldn't due it for me. I'm not sure why they wrote the protagonist to be so dumb and chaotic. If you want to watch a space movie, I suggest Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar". THAT movie is amazing. This one is a waste of time.
