What a dumbed down series. What a waste of wonderful actors + costumes. It was such an interesting premise & as a huge Downton Abbey fan & a history buff, I was more than excited. I’ve watched countless documentaries & read plenty of biographies on the main players during this period. The Astors, the Vanderbilts, even Stanford White (before his murder by the beautiful Evelyn Nesbit’s drugged up husband). So much could have been done. The story lines, the forced accents & the conversations between characters are just so silly. It almost feels like I’m watching a community theater play. No charm, no wit. It seems as though Mr. Fellows gives Americans very little credit. This watered down version of a period drama is not what I was expecting. Nothing feels authentic. It’s almost painful to watch. Such a disappointment…
