It seems as though they just want us to wait and watch Part 2, instead of this. There are so many visions of the future that it becomes intrusive- it spoils itself, and makes it seem as though this entire part 1 could've been a text block at the beginning. The soundtrack, sets, costumes are all spectacular, but the story itself takes an hour and a half of hushed, whispered exposition just to set up. No context is offered (you can't make me read a book to prepare for a movie) for why everyone fights with swords 8,000 years in the future, why the Atreides have been put in control of Arrakis in the first place, what's so important about that fight to the death at the end, who the Emperor they're doing all this for even is... I'll very likely see Part 2, if only because Part 1 has made it clear that that's when it'll finally get interesting.
