I loved this book, even if I had to read it for my English class. It is very engaging to read, and sheds light on the horrors of the Holocaust for those who may not be knowledgeable on the subject. I felt compelled to share my thoughts as I was looking through the lower reviews, and it appears that many people have NO media literacy. There are some saying that the Jewish people being depicted as mice is racist, who must not understand the concept of symbolism, and the fact that it shows the influence that this event had on the perception of Jewish people. The same goes for the Polish, German, and Black people depicted in this book, it is all symbolic, and is even discussed in the book. For those saying it is racist against black people, there is only ever one black person in the book, and while Vladek (the character very obviously depicted in being stuck in the past) makes racist comments, he is called out for it. I understand if you do not like the book, but do not call it racist if you didn't even read the whole thing(you wouldn't say those things if you got farther than the first book, unless you are incompetent) and simply do not understand the message.
