Taylor Swift’s charm and smooth voice, combined with the fantastic production, should be enough to make a decent album. However, I think the Tortured Poets Department lacks the impact her previous albums have. The lyrics in many of the songs come across as lazy, pretentious (as in she’s trying to make it sound as poetic as possible), and cynical at times. I really don’t appreciate the excessive amount of name-dropping and harsh jabs toward her fans. The melodies in many of the songs are repetitive. I’m a big fan of Taylor- top 1%, according to Spotify- but I find her latest album disappointing at the very least.
