I'm trying to get more into slow burn movies. After some reflection I understand the direction it was going in but the ending lacked spark and didnt match the movie's descriptor. I think the theme being labeled female resistance fit the military radio system and female soldier revenge war concept well, but the ending felt misplaced. Most negative reviews are taking the events in the plot too literally. This movie is metaphoric so keep that in mind while watching. It really changes the experience.

When Ana returns to reality in the same clothes, makeup slapped on her face and curls in her hair. Felt like the "take the higher ground" trope which I feel is a complete slap in the face to the character who seemingly grew strong on the island. I think her singing was to perhaps demonstrate her "finding her voice". Thats a great message if this was a coming of age film, but in connection to the events that have lead up to her fight to leave the island it was unfitting. Toward the beginning of the film she tries to radio men to help her escape, which fails. She gives up on the idea of men helping her until max and dimitri appear. Neither were able to fully help her, in the end she needed strong female and male allies to encourage her and give her the strength to try again. I think sticking with that message would have given more power to the protangist and make her time on the island more introspective. I think female resilience and courage would be better represented by her leaving the workplace off to... *ending credits*.
