Spoiler-free review: I LOVED IT 1000000%! It neatly tidies up that hot mess called 'The Crystal Skull,' and is an uptempo, well-paced nail biter with excellent performances all around. It's got pretty pretty good 'young Harrison Ford' CGI face work (it's not perfect but it's pretty darn good). Zero CG gophers. And it wraps up the series on a beautifully subtle note that feels done with the utmost respect to the character. I left the theater smiling.
Importantly, everything seems appropriate in regards to Indy's age, his place in the world in the 1960s, and nothing ever seems like "Oh, he's too old for this stuff." This movie strikes all the right notes, all the way down to the puzzle solving, the global travel, pulling Indy out of his 'retirement,' and the classic series beats with some nice twists and turns.
I saw it in IMAX and enjoyed every extra inch of it. Please see it in a theater if you can. Harrison Ford crushes it. Yes, it requires some suspension of disbelief in a couple places, but I think director James Mangold (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma) reels it in at the end and did an overall fantastic job. He's a great director and he's got a great cast, and I enjoyed every second of the ride. It really gives off a The Adventures of Tintin energy, and that movie is one of the best Indiana Jones-like films out there.
