This is the only kdrama I've ever watched in my whole 22year life and the reason why I've never watched any other dramas because IT IS SO HARD TO MOVE ON FROM THIS DRAMA. I first watched Rooftop Prince in 2012/2013 and I remembered very well I was so engaged watching this series and finished it in few days. It had always been my favourite romance drama since then (well partly because it is the only kdrama I've watched 😁). When I noticed it's available to watch in a streaming platform, I SUBSCRIBED RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I REALLY NEED TO REWATCH THIS SERIES. I do remember the plot, the begining, the conflict, how it ended but I don't really remember much more the details after more than 9 years. I knew it was going to hurt my lil heart :") but in a way it satisfied me. I always go for realistic ending, even though not all the characters have a happy end (like Maze Runner series). Bittersweet/happy but also sad ending is ok for me as long as the story doesn't force to have a happy unrealistic ending.
And though it is a fantasy series, how the story goes, how the characters interact seem realistic. It is a romance series, but it is not cheesy. The love between the main protagonists grew slowly, steadily and naturally. The actors and actresses surely had the talent to play their own roles. They all suit perfectly for their roles. The charisma among all the casts were built very well too. No useless scenes/events. The 20eps covered all the plot in a compact and clear storyline. Not too fast, not too slow. Though sure, if I could, I would change some little things.
<<SPOILER ALERT>>
I would love to see more interactions between Park Ha & Tae Yong in the ending of the series :( also would've been better if it showed how Tae-Yong recovered from his coma. When he accidentally met her he noticed he had seen her somewhere before. Not only they just met and felt connected, moreover in Tae-Yong POV who should've been very confused about what had happened during his coma. Also, should have made Lee Gak & Tae Yong's appearance a bit different, maybe from the hairstyle or how they dressed up. They supposed to be different people after all. Other than that is quite ok I think.
<<END OF SPOILER>>
One I should also mention is THE BEAUTIFUL SONGS. They all fit perfectly in every scene. You can laugh and cry, you can feel the hurt and anger. The background songs really do their job supporting the atmosphere.
I always think the filmmakers and everyone who got involved in creating this drama are geniuses. How they could make an already cool storyline into a fully satisfying series. Always after watching this series, I felt sad 😟 feeling so empty thinking I'd never find such a good series to watch anymore, like I've watched the best series in the world and no series could complete me like Rooftop Prince did. It felt the same like after you'd finished a really good book and you did not know what to do in life or like after going to your favourite artist concert. Even when the night changed, half of you was still living in the world of the book you just finished or the experience of singing your favourite song with your favourite singer in front of you.
To be honest, I'm never into romance drama. Unless it was a total happy ending like princesses stories. But I made exception for this one drama. I love it so much though it hurts me in some ways 🥲
