This game is definitely a huge step up from previous installment Gran Turismo Sport. But it still contains several issues and also has created new ones aswell. I will start off with the good parts thou.
They have brought back real performance tuning so you can again add individual parts to your car allowing you to improve each aspect of the car. You also get performance points which gives you an idea on how good the overall car is. Some races will be restricted to a certain level of PP (performance points) so tune your car well. Will you go for speed, handling or a mixture of both?
You can now also not only change the vinyl wrap to your car but also change things from bumpers, defusers, side skirts, wide body kits and spoilers aswell. I do not think these affect down force of the car thou. I personally think it would have been better if they did but thats ofcourse subject to opinion.
The campaign is supposed to be really long although I have not completed it but I have got most of the tracks unlocked. You also get these contract cards which have challenges to complete certain tasks in order to unlock rewards. The rewards are kind of pointless thou. Its mostly these spins which give you a few thousand credits. But still you mite aswell do them cos it guides you throu what races to do next and you unlock cards along the way leveling your account up.
The downsides to this game and some of these are some of the most terrible idea's that have came to the GT series.
The 1st slap in the face is car collecting is more important than driving now? Yes a racing game where you no longer need to race if you spend real cash. Someone can grab this game and unlock everything without ever driving a car. They have tied the levels into micro-transactions by turning it into car collecting levels. Driving levels were far better from GT sport but you can't tie that to micro-transactions.
You also get these dumb roulette spins but you always get the lowest tear reward. Obviously they don't wanna give too much free stuff to the player because then they won't spend money on credits. Everything in this game is set up to get the consumer to spend more money. Races that offer more credits require you to have a specific car to enter that race. That car will only work for a couple races that offer good money. Unlike GT Sport every time you complete the same race the prize becomes less. So if you spend 1 million credits on a car you will probably never get 1 million back (On single player) in the same car.
Another issue is the performance points don't work properly. You would think that if a car has higher than the recommended PP than it will perform well in a race. That simply isn't the case. I have tried 2 different cars on the same race. 1 car is better but has 10 pp less then the recommended amount and performs really well. Another car has 50 pp over the amount and the AI destroy me. This can lead confusion to players making them think they are bad at the game when really its because the game hasn't balanced tuning properly. Handling parts offer way too many points. A car can be slow but have high PP.
The pre order cars were terrible and probably some of the worst cars in their category. Probably won't ever use them again but at least I some XP out of them.
