I don't really think the problems are as bad as they represent it here. They make a few slippery slope arguments... one I remember is that the lack of political efficacy (in US women) is blamed on the media's emphasis of beauty. Just because the media emphasizes beauty (also something I disagree with, as of 2019) doesn't mean you can't also value other things like politics. And I'm not just talking about running for office, I also mean just knowing what's going on in our country.
