It’s not just that it’s way too long, it’s that so much of the extra unnecessarily time is just the same dumb things happening over and over again (especially in battle scenes) without adding anything remotely useful to the mediocre story. No one seems to have any plans or forethought, it’s not an interesting story, and there are some baffling or disappointing problems with the characters (the same over the top villain for example — really?). And so much awful stuff keeps happening to innocent people and animals (again and again) when the point could be made about the bad guys without literally going scorched earth so much. Glad I didn’t make the mistake of showing it to kids or wasting time or money seeing it in the theater. What a stinker! Water stuff looks cool though.
