Tom Cruise produced this movie and I suspect had a heavy hand in managing the screenplay, directing, and editing. It was meant to be an opus or capstone to the the Mission Impossible phenomenon but comes across as a somewhat longish and sentimental retooling of everything we've seen before, perhaps for the benefit of die-hard fans. I certainly think Tom Cruise is one of the most underappreciated actors of my generation, but I will remember him for his creative forays into sci-fi.
