Just finished the game. And it was awesome. It actually made me cry at the end, something which only 2 other games have managed to do so far. Black myth wukong and nier automata.
My breakdown of the game:
Story 11/10
Yes. An 11. Since it made me cry. The story really touched me. I understood all actions everyone took, and even if I did mot agree with the what, I understood the why.
In essense this is a story about grief. Abouth death. And about loss. And all of it was done in a beautiful manner. Dont know who wrote it but that person deserves all the praise possible.
Characters 10/10
Long story short, all were amazing. I will remember all. All their motivations were strong. The two main character (male and female to not give away too much spoilers) were great. My favorite, Esquie. I was quite amused to find out what he was at the very end of the game. And I love him more for it.
The voice acting was great too. I could feel the emotions if these characters and I never felt like what they did or said and in what way they said it, was out of place.
Music 10/10
The ambiance and music were great. It fit the setting and situation. It was very similar to nier automata, but french. Probably going to listen to the ost in my free time, like I did with that games ost.
Combat 9/10
I finished the game in expert difficulty. I started in this games version of hard - expeditioner.
Halfway through the first act i switched to it. At the beginning if arc 2 I went back to expert. And this way it felt great to me. The game on expert was too difficult early in act 1, and hard was too easy from arc 2 onwards. With those adjustments it went smoothly and the game was great.
Parrying and dodging was fun, I had to really learn the bosses to beat them.
The problem started in arc 3. At the beginning of arc 3 it went great. But then bosses started to get killed before they could act.
I used sciel in the beginning to get the rest of my team to 1 hp, then used the sos pictos to greatly buff their crit and damage in order to wipe out everything.
Before the final boss I decided to remove the painted power pictos, limiting damage to 9999. It took a little bit longer, and I had to limmit free aim of my versi to two shots max per rotation, but I still killed the boss before seeing any if his mechanics. Difficulty and combat need a lot of fineruning. Honestly, combat would be greater if damage was limited to 9999 for everything but a couple of abilities. And those should be limited to 99999 instead or something. This way you dont oneshot and still experience the game.
Also, verso with all of his shot luminas woukd still be very op then, so he would have to be balanced some other way.
Overall, they had some great and innovative ideas. Many of them worked great, but combat balancing needs finetuning
Overall,
One of the best games of the last two decades
