This is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. The characters are hollow and the story is empty. The use of popular songs rearranged to fit a period drama fails miserably right from the beginning when they try to bend Nirvana into a soundtrack about the Moulin Rouge in 1890 Paris. But it only got worse, the rendition of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” was a true low point. It was intended to be comical but it was cringe worthy how bad it was. The so-called seduction scenes were difficult to watch- neither sexy nor funny- they made me feel embarrassed for the actors involved. Nicole Kidman is a very capable actress and a beautiful woman but she couldn’t have been more wrong for the part.
