What this series did well was give the true history of the battles in the Pacific and explore the after effects of war on the soldiers. But it was a little bit hard to get through.... Whereas band of Brothers, the original series, was fast-paced and deep and really held my interest I really struggled with the Pacific. The first five episodes are a bit of a slog to get through. I couldn’t really relate to the main three characters that much and a lot of the story was kind of tedious. By the time we got to the last few episodes it got much better and I wanted to know how all the stories were wrapped up. The cinematography is awesome and the realism is pretty astounding. I just wish there had been more interesting characters and more of a plot to keep things going. It’s still a pretty solid production but I think they missed some opportunities. However, it was a really great history lesson on the war and the hardships faced.

Refreshing and honest take on spirituality and finding purpose in life

I really liked the concept and I thought they had a very good group of actors. The problem is that all of the characters are very obnoxious and unlikable. There’s no person you really want to root for. There’s also just problems in logic. I mean, the engineer dies and there’s no artificial intelligence or computer system in the future to guide the ship back? The captain is an actor who has no military background guiding a ship through space? It would’ve made more sense if the command crew had been wiped out and passengers had to fill-in with the help of an onboard computer or something. Then you’d have somebody to root for. The character who is the corporate head gets very tiresome very quickly. It just seems like every episode is just about characters being angry with each other which wears thin. It’s irritating. A show like the Orville has likable characters. Even the classic sci-fi series Red Dwarf has characters who are at odds with each other but they have interesting plots and twists and turns and some humanity. I watched two episodes of this show and just turned it off. A wasted opportunity which is a shame because they were at least trying to do something different.
