Probably the worst Ghibli film ever made is this one. First off, Rikako's terrible attitude makes me incredibly mad. Taku is just so naive to fall for her manipulation and mistreatment of him and others. The ending was especially awful because it shows a disastrous and unrealistic finale for a "romance" film. The conclusion implied that Taku realized that he had a wild love for her—what in the world was that? There was not the slightest hint that he is in love with Rikaku. He only has negative recollections of them together. I find it hard to accept that he feels something for her constantly. It is undoubtedly realistic, though. It demonstrates how many relationships are toxic in actuality, but people still romanticize them because of "looks". The plot of this film was terrible and there was no character development at all which is why it's so difficult to sympathize and relate to the characters. Taku and Yutaka's chemistry is the only redeeming quality in it, regardless of how realistic it may seem.
