If you are considering watching this movie, you should know it is a disjointed, heavy-handed piece of propaganda that ends with Meryl Streep slowly removing her truly ridiculous “Panamanian woman” disguise as she strides across the set, ultimately transforming into herself while lecturing to you about the need for tax and campaign finance reform. You may feel a little insulted because the movie assumes you can only comprehend things at about a second-grade level. Oh, and be prepared to be informed by the German and Panamanian lawyers played by Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas that the United States is pretty much responsible for the corrupting power of money across the globe. Brace yourself because at the conclusion of her sanctimonious CTA (but WHAT action?), Meryl tucks in her scarf and grabs her hairbrush, then stands in a cringe-worthy “Statue of Liberty” pose. In summary, this terrible movie about swindling made me feel totally swindled. Doing my part to let any of you potential viewers out there know what you’re getting yourselves into.
