Where to start? TopGun was a coming of age movie during my teen years; it was massive! Today, TG 1986 is that moment in the mid 80's that feels like that Huffy bike your road everywhere all day long.
So now comes Top Gun Maverick. I bought tickets wondering if it was going to be a close proximity to the original movie; or even better...Would it outshine the 1986 movie? It was neither.
Top Gun Maverick is dripping with reference after reference to the 1986 film; leaving me airsick. It feels like the filmmakers were late for their dinner reservation at Anegelini Osteria and jotted a few notes between the lines of the original script and called it good.
The movie stalls within minutes of the opening sequence, and we still have how much time to go? If you want to see "Top Gun Tom Cruise", then you will not be disappointed. There are no subplots in the movie, as if there was a fear that they would cut in on Mr. Cruise's screen time. So, Curise fans will travel Mach 10 and see Tom in all but 5 minutes of this movie.
I needed to see the movie...to see the movie. It was inevitable. But if you only have $11 to spend on movies this month...go see the Buzz Lightyear origin story.
