"They're going to write songs about the $#i\ you messed up"
If you aren't a Tom Clancy desciple and are watching this movie for what it actually is rather than what it isn't (& never will be), you'll be very entertained. If this wasn't based on a "beloved" Clancy novel, it would be rated much much higher. Taylor (Hell or High Water, Sicario, Yellowstone, Wind River) Sheridan's fingerprints are all over the script, and I for one am damn happy he re-wrote it with Will Sheridan.
No wonder Michael B. Jordan chose this role. It has the gravitas of Killmonger, the heart of Creed, the sorrow of Fruitvale Station. Simply, Michael plays a badass operator with nothing left to lose NOTE PERFECT. His fans will be happy.
The action set pieces are directed with purpose & efficiency. They also fuel actual character development, which is something I haven't seen mentioned, and something rarely done.
The small supporting cast do their jobs as well as they can in a movie like this. Jamie Bell plays the smily yet patriotic Ritter almost perfectly. One accent slip costs him the perfect game. Jodie Turner-Smith is going to be a Hollywood mainstay after this movie. She can do it all, and her character's DNA is obvious. The politicians are lead by the always solid Guy Pearce.
Two final things, I REALLY want to see this in the cinema and I really want to see John Krasinski's Jack Ryan on-screen with this ensemble the next time I see them. I'll just say I had a theory that this was a tie-in to John's show before I saw it. Little did I know another tie-in had been planned. Gamers will be happy.
