Next to Ashfall by Mike Mullan, by far the best apocalypse book I've ever read. The slow-burn nature of the death by dehydration gave me a genuine sense of mounting horror, the first I've ever felt while reading a book of this genre. One of the most genius parts, however, was the long opening to the book before the main adventure. Instead of your stereotypical wasteland bandit, Shusterman decided to show us the slow, agonizing descent of a group of civilized people into that kind of desperation, which gave me a genuine fear of what would happen when I turned the page-and when they would snap.
10/10 experience.
