The greatest thing about a Fiona Apple record is how clearly gifted as a musician she is, and how much she doesn't glorify or take that talent too seriously. This is music to create a body of work that is stompingly, rhythmically human, and that speaks the human language fearlessly.
If you're a music critic who's just looking for things to rate systematically, you will most probably think this album is overrated. If you're all bones, nerves, heart, ankles and veins, just like all the percussions in this album, this is another artwork that will remind you 100% how human you are.
One thing that keeps me from revisiting this album to listen to often is the fact that it has a resentful air to it, but the music and artistry is top notch.
