Bought this game with the Switch 2 hoping for an experience that would match the previous Legends title and have been unfortunately let down. Have been a Pokémon fan since I was a little kid and that is about the only reason this is getting 3 stars and not lower, as I still had an OK time mostly from the nostalgia Pokemon brings. Here’s the positives and negatives.
Positives:
-The city scape is fairly pretty. And the interiors are very well done
-LOTS of new mega evos which are fun to use and encounter
-Cutscene graphics are Incredible especially the start and end
-Music is great
-Nice progression of wild zones popping up as you play which reveal more Pokémon
-Is a fun map to explore
-New battling mechanics are interesting and make some overlooked moves useful
Negatives:
-Over levelling is very easy even when constantly changing your team
-Catching Pokémon is too easy. KO+Ultra Ball catches the hardest Pokemon almost every time
-There is no almost no movement progression like in every other Pokémon game (in unlocking new HMs or rideable pokemon)
-Boss fights are too easy (especially compared to Legends Arceus) especially the final boss was a big let down
-Very linear story. Does not feel like you impact much and are more along for the ride
-MAP IS WAY TOO SMALL, I personally explored most of it just over halfway through the game. On top of this there is maybe a collective 10 buildings you can enter and not interact with much once inside
-Short playtime. I nearly 100% the game in abt 45 hours
-Cashgrab. Releasing the DLC the day the game was released was so scummy.
Overall was disappointed and do not think it is worth the money. They had such a promising start to the Legends series with legends arceus and this game in my opinion falls short in almost all the ways arceus was successful. I was expecting the increased difficulty, and high interactiveness to carry through to this legends title but ZA is instead one of the easiest and least interactive games ever made by Pokemon. The focus is on the artful, airy atmosphere of the city and even this is not expertly done. This will sadly be the last time I buy a Pokemon game before waiting to read the reviews, as this game has proven that they do not know how to stick with a good thing and instead return time and time again to flashy games with little substance.
also pls just add some options to make these games a little harder like turning off xp share or even select a difficulty. The recent games obviously cater to children which is rly hurting the older fanbase
