If you watch this film expecting the world-shattering exploits of previous Hellboy outings, then you may be disappinted, but fans of the comic will appreciate this smaller-scale monster-of-the-week tale that more accuately matches the style and tone of Big Red's printed adventures. While the film could have benefitted from a bigger budget, it's a suitably creepy affair that drops Hellboy into the middle of a tale involving the titular Crooked Man, and allows him to punch, bash and shoot his way clear with a little help from a BPRD comrade and a new ally. The film leans harder into the horror and folklore side of the Hellboy mythos than the previous more fantastical films, and I hope we get to see more Hellboy films from this team!
