There are not many shows that focus on older lgbtq+ characters, and this one is the perfect example of such. Both funny and dramatic, our flag means death blatantly ignores all boundaries and stereotypes and makes it work on vibes instead of historical accuracy or the image of pirates that we are used to. Of course, there is still rum, of course, at some point, you are going to see a one-legged pirate, but that's not all that there is to pirates. Blackbeard is a historical figure that we don't know much about, and the show (especially the second season) dives into his story and shows not just the legend, the image, but a person with feelings. His association with Stede Bonnet is a curious one, and this show's take on it is fresh and simply wonderful. 10/10, totally recommend.
