I never review movies, but I cringed SO hard to the point that I had to come here to investigate: I was genuinely curious in if I was alone in feeling the extreme awkwardness of the character development. Glad to know that I wasn’t.
The relationships between all of the characters were 2 dimensional. I felt nothing. Especially between Ely and....and...WOW. I’m already forgetting the main characters names (Pretty telling). Ely and Naomi (thanks to their names being at the top of the screen lol)!
The peak of their relationship was a choppy and non-verbal montage of: forced laughter paired with pointing at absolutely nothing, twirling down the streets in vibrant wigs, empty/awkward “romantic” nose snuggling, and bothering the general public.... What a DEEP connection, NOT. Not to mention, the “No kiss list?” No joining clubs? No traveling past 14th street? Pretty unhealthy and controlling if you ask me. It merely felt like a chliché, watered down, PG version of a shallow cocain-based relationship.
The movie had the vibe/script of High School Musical, yet the assumed tone/story line of Rent and it would have been more believable if people with “absent-minded party girl gone serious grunge” vibes like Kristen Ritter were casted. This movie was beyond immature and messy.
Finding “tRuE LoVe” via cheating with your best friend’s boyfriend and rebound broom closet hook-ups? “Backup friendships?” Striving to make people “jealous?” What a GREAT toxic message. Lol Really, round of applause.
If you decide to watch the movie, you’ll defiinitely feel as if you’re in the same dimension as the director of the movie — as someone being on the outside looking in, imagining a trendy storyline.... and NOT in the dimension of the actual characters, immersed in the ups and downs of life. Not once, did I forget that the actors were actors.
Also, Victoria Justice has an ugly cry face. I mean, I’m sure we all do, but this one, I wasn’t buying lol.
