I have just seen the film. Todd Field has created a great contemporary drama for our times, using a symphony orchestra and it’s conductor, along with bureaucracy that goes with it as metaphor: crash and burn of a maestro, because of her ruthless ambition, unbridled ego. She is destroyed by the representatives of wokedom, who are the latest servants of capital, by those who uphold relativism and pluralism in opposition to the aesthetic tradition, which the Enlightenment bequeathed us, In a word, nihilism and emptiness in the name of art. Capitalism is disintegrating at every level. Despite a brilliant performance by Kate Blanchet and Field’s script, it won’t win an oscar for all the above reasons.

All of the above reviews are superficial, because they focus on the quality of the form, I.e. how does it compare with Woody Allen at his best, at the expense of the content, which is about documentary film making, what is truth, can one contrive things and still tell the truth? The film suggests that the younger generation are more interested in being a success, becoming a celebrity, at the expense of integrity..

Charmingly underwhelming. A cinematic poem which doesn't supersede the pretentious claims made within it about the Carlos Williams inspired poetry. The little girl's poem was superior to the other stuff. I would like the poetry to be more like poetry, I.e different, more concise, more redolent with meaning, replete with poetic devices, which would distinguish it from the prose of everyday life. Still a breath of fresh air all the same.
