I don't usually leave reviews for movies, but I haven't been so happy with a franchise entry in a long time. This movie brought to Saw a thrill that I feel has been missing from the series for a long while, not only that but also with incredibly done pacing and writing. I felt every beat of the story and every emotional scene, with Tobin and Shawnee's acting being the most shining example. Even after so long since being active in Saw, they both knocked it out of the park, making it easy to sympathize with them as antagonists and even ROOTING for their survival. (SPOILERS ->) Even as someone who had seen every other Saw movie and knew both John and Amanda survived to Saw III, I was holding my breath when the trap was turned on them and let out the biggest sigh of relief when they survived alongside the classic 'Hello Zepp' backed twist. Overall beautifully crafted film that hit every mark as a long time fan of the franchise, which has definitely made up for the lows of Saw3D and Spiral TENfold. :)
Also, as an addition, the gore and effects were incredible, hard to watch in the best way possible. Went to see it with someone who doesn't like the genre, and there was such a good balance of plot and gruesomeness that even they could get invested in the story and came out enjoying it. That line between 'too slow' and 'torture p*rn' has been treaded on both sides by this franchise for a long time now, and I feel like this was the first installment that balanced perfectly between. Bravo to everyone who worked on it!
