This movie was butchered to the point where it has a completely different story line than the book. If I was the author, I would be furious. Maybe it would have been different if the story was good, but that's not even the case. It jumps around and you have no idea what is actually happening between the two main characters. It's cringy, and not the way the book intended because it's just so badly presented.
It's not even the actors' fault. The script left out every single important scene from the book. Every single one. They made all the characters sound annoying. What scenes they tried to include were completely rewritten to the point it made little sense. Example: She is supposed to hate her father and talking about anything related to being forced to gamble her dad out of his debts made her upset. It was the reason she left and didn't tell her dad where she was. He threw her under the bus when she got to Vegas and basically offered her to pay his debt, and Travis was with her the whole time. It annoyed me to no end how much they changed the story.
They made her sound so ungrateful for Travis when her feelings toward him were never that she hated or didn't appreciate him, but that she saw too much trouble and her dad in him. Completely left that out. They just made her sound like a brat in this movie. There is no emotion, there is no build. Everything that made the book good was completely removed, and it wasn't even for a better or more manageable script. Books that are that in depth with their characters should never be made into a movie if they can't at least include the few scenes that showcase why the characters are the way they are.
I understand that movies need tweaked and reworked to fit the time slot and adapt to a more manageable story that the actors can perform, but it was completely changed. Every single character was altered so much that it is a completely different story from the book. It's no longer a Beautiful Disaster. It was just a Disaster.
