As an 80s baby who has been a fan since the original, to the point where my entire bedroom was engulfed in Ghostbusters decor at age 5, I was left unamused, and here’s why:
The opening scene was INSANE, and really got your gears turning in anticipation for the rest of the film. Unfortunately, it was a build up to be let down. There were several flat moments where you could have easily gotten bored and distracted if you weren’t at the movies.
They literally made it into a teenage love story, and it was very disappointing for everything going on between them to be SUPER obvious and predictable. Just throw SOME type of plot twist in it!
There was also not enough horror, ghosts, visuals, or monsters. They literally tease you into thinking certain monsters or ghosts were gonna break out and haunt throughout the movie, but it never happened. Even when the climax started and all the ghosts were released, there was no real VFX or imagery; only spirits floating out. None of the New York natives were attacked or haunted or anything. I give it a 6/10 only because the antagonist was a little scarier than most of the ghosts we’re used to seeing in the franchise.
