A would-be Bernard Cornwell. Covers a remarkable amount of the same ground as Cornwell's Thomas of Hookton novels, but without the light and shade. Lots of gore, disgusting behaviour and crude language. Cornwell conveys the horrors of medieval war much more subtly. I wouldn't read another by Jones.

An insensitive film given Ireland's history from the Great Hunger to the Hunger Strikes during The Troubles. The Irish are mostly portrayed as religious fanatics, with an English woman providing the voice of reason.
