From a non-critic point of view, the entire plot was a MAJOR disappointment while the visual aspects were spectacular. Throughout the lengthy runtime, there were about 5 different subplots, none of which were solid or explained thoroughly. There were no actual motivations for the villain in the “main” plot. Although the actings for the Na’vi people were great, all of the actors playing the humans were horrendous. I could not cringe enough at Jack Champion (Spider)’s acting and dialogue. On the other hand, Zoe Saldaña (Neytiri) was amazing, as usual. Also, the entire 3 hours were made up entirely of rescue scenes and showing off cool special effects/CGI. Even though the cinematography was neat, like I had mentioned, in some action sequences, it did seem extremely choppy and had a 2010s video game feeling to them. Overall, the first Avatar movie sets up high standards that the second one could not meet.
