Fantasticly moving. Thought provoking. A beautifully written and much needed piece of work. I loved the elements of the Creole and French languages throughout the book. Historically, the novel provided a different spin on what I thought I knew about women's rights, slavery, and American legislation. This needs to be read in book clubs, college literature and African American studies courses as there were so many themes and history lessons.
People who enjoyed The Warmth of Over Suns, Cane River, or Beloved would appreciate this outstanding novel which was inspired by true events.
