My husband is Peruvian. We both loved the scenery of the movie. My background is Italian. I don't understand why they would cast someone who is looks more European than I do as the lead female. She even looked more European than the lead actor whose character was supposed to be from Spain. The movie did not explain why the lead character looked different from all of the people who played her relatives in the movie. They all looked indigenous or indigenous mixed with European. A few of the characters looked indigenous mixed with European and African. They did not show a picture of the lead character's parents in the movie. I was guessing that they would do this, and that one of her parents would be European. If both of her parents were part European that would even make more sense. Recessive genes could then explain her light brown hair and green eyes. My children are half Peruvian and half Italian and they look like they are mixed. The next generation might be different because there may be different genes in the gene pool. This is not a criticism of the performance of the actress. It just did not make any sense to me that she was cast in the role. It was like casting Mickey Rooney as a Japanese in Breakfast at Tiffany's, David Carradine as a half Chinese/half European in Kung Fu, or Yul Brynner as Thai in The King and I.
