This movie was pretty bad. Not as bad as I was expecting but bad all the same. I liked the casting and family dynamics but the plot, villain development and dialogue were all lacking.
What I Enjoyed:
Familial Ties
Bilingual Dialogue
(Some) Action Scenes
The Transformations
What I DIDNT LIKE:
The Expletives
The Cheesy Stereotypical Family Troupes
The Ancestral Plain/ Universe Juice
The Inconsistent Morality (Mercy on villain but not Henchmen)
Cringy Sexual Innuendo + Lack of Chemistry
Lacking Character Development/Investment
Terrible Plot from Beginning TO End
Lack of Scarab Personality and reference to the REACH
The Friggin Color Scheme
The movie had some good scenes like the home invasion, some parts of the attack on the compound and Rudy’s reaction to the car being stolen. The good sadly did not overcome the bad. About halfway through the movie I was just wishing for it to be over. It had no business being two hours and 5 minutes. The plot was all over the place, the villains were bland and one note and the The main characters were not compelling. The universe stuff that the dead father was spouting was annoying and the “emotional scenes” did NOT hit home. Only a few scenes in the entire movie were well acted out. The family had a little to no concern for the destruction and death they cost. This makes it hard to connect or sympathize with them or even register them as the “good guys”. Pretty much all of the Hispanic/Latino/etc. characters were good at heart and all other characters were evil. The social commentary was stereotypical and distasteful. It was just a bad movie. If you enjoyed it no heat to you but I don’t recommend 👎🏽
