(Spoiler free review) Don’t let the harsh reviews deter you from this game. I just finished a rather brisk play-through of a little less than 20 hours and I personally loved the game. It’s story is phenomenal with outstanding voice actors and stunning visuals that really drive it home in terms of quality. There were more than a few moments that drew tears from me as I watched the cutscenes. Sure the marketing could have been more clear on what the game was gonna be like but the game still packs a punch that few other games can measure up to. I really don’t understand the hate and really consider this game to be a near masterpiece almost standing as tall as the original. I only give it 4 stars due to the fact that it the marketing did seem a little misleading and the game wasn’t exactly what I and what I’m sure is many others were expecting in terms of the story it tells. Although the story isn’t what I was expecting I still find it to be an extremely compelling and masterfully told story that doesn’t leave much to be desired except for more of the game. I’m definitely going to be playing a second time with new game+ at a more relaxed pace and explore as much of the game as possible now that I’m no longer in risk of having anything spoiled for me. I had one major spoiler before I played and all I can say is that it knowing what was inevitably going to happen surprisingly didn’t subtract anything from the game so if that’s a concern don’t let it stop you as seeing it happen versus knowing it’ll happen are two very different things. Overall a mindblowing game that I would easily recommend to nearly anyone who loves story driven games with satisfying combat that has a stomach for gore and dark themes within a video game.
