The book contains textual description of academic dress from almost all British and Irish universities. The description is clearly divided into parts: gown, hood, hat. This is, in most cases, easier to understand than what universities wrote in their regulations. Experienced tailors should find this book helpful.
There are few images of different types of gowns, hoods, headgear and materials in the first pages. Readers should also look for images of corresponding gowns on the internet as, aside from the cover, there are no colour images of the gown. Presumably the addition of colour images can make the book more costly. Some newer universities are also skipped (e.g. Cardiff Metropolitan); others are outdated (e.g. Brunel).
