Scum Villain is an artful and impactful dissection of toxic masculinity, the cycle of abuse, and the toxic effects of flattening real people into stereotypes. It is chockful of dick jokes and some casual slur usage. The subtextual themes and actual narrative are like a fun Easter egg you only find if you take the time to analyse the book because of how unreliable of a narrator Shen Qingqiu is. Freud would have a field day with Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe's relationship. I cried. I laughed. I'm writing an essay on it.
Do NOT read this if you cannot handle satire, 'problematic' themes, or gore. The gore is because of the sex scene. I had to take a break after reading the scene. Most well written sex scene on Earth.
Cannot recommend highly enough, but only if you can handle the fact that a teacher/student relationship is the least problematic thing about it.
