I remember buying the book. I also remember going home and starting to read it at 2pm on a Saturday. I finished it that night, in tears. Lorenzo Carcaterra isn’t an author and you can tell. The book is simply written in plain language, that doesn’t take away from the fact that I was hooked and it’s the only book I still own, nearly 30 years later! The film is brilliantly cast. De Niro was just awesome as Father Bobby and King Benny (one of my fave characters) was brought to life by the actor. I couldn’t look at Kevin Bacon for YEARS after this film. Apparently it’s true. So “Michael” if you’re still living in the English Countryside, I hope you found peace! Just watch the film people!!
