Very ambivalent about this movie. Not sure you could call it a movie, in the real sense. It felt more like they were "walking through" the scenes before actual filming began. Acting was ok. I think there was cliche more than actual acting. There was very little depth to the characters. And the supporting actors (aside from the 7 main characters) were just fillers; props even. There was no real build up. I think more could have been added to make it more of a movie. More dark humor. The Breslin chick should concentrate more on acting and less on how she thinks she looks on camera. Immerse us in your character, Abigail. In the end, I gave it a 3-star review and that was being kind.

I gotta say, this is one of the better movies I’ve watched in a really long time. This includes pre-pandemic movies as well. The action sequence, the dialogue, the premise, the cast, all added to a great experience. The scene between Ice and Maverick was one of the most tasteful, heterosexual scenes EVAH. I cried during that scene, I’m afraid to admit. “You have to let it go”. Gosh, that had my eyes streaming, I tell you. It’s just a really good movie.

I like the premise of 1883. I like the actors in 1883. Somewhat. What I don’t understand is why the film is being told through the eyes of his daughter. I don’t understand all this talk of “freedom”, “sunlight”, “life”. Were they oppressed in Tennessee? I like Claire, the sister-in-law, but her acting is overkill. It’s a little slow in places, but I understand they’re building up characters and tension and uncertainty. What I do like is how the idea of going West is filled with angst and similar to taking a big gulp of air because you slipped into some really freezing water. The show very much demonstrates what immigrants were feeling about moving West: the uncertainty, hiring guards, what to take with them (and what to leave behind). I was never a huge fan of Tim McGraw but this show really brings out his take no prisoners attitude. I wish Faith Hill would allow herself to look “old” in this show. I wasn’t too sure when they added Lamonica Garrett but he really adds to the show. Overall, I gave it 4 stars because I definitely think improvement is needed but it could be worse.

I could not stop staring at her horrible botched facial surgery: the fake lips pouting, the smooth free forehead. I hope she lays off the Botox in the future. Her makeup was horrible. She looked like an aging Goth. Her hair has been treated so much, it looks like straw. Kate can do better. But the idea for the movie has credibility (a berserker working for good, taking out the bad guys?); however, the dialogue was bad. It felt like it was Amateur Night or Dialogue Writing 101 in junior college. The movie flowed ok, but again, nothing extraordinary. She had no sense of loneliness or pathos, but more like she was on a lark. I like Kate Beckinsale as an actress. She did a better job in Underworld. One could empathize with her in that movie. This one? Not so much. I only turned to this movie because there was nothing else going. I think giving it 2 stars was a mercy.

One of the dumbest, most pointless movies ever. There is no central theme. You would think it would be about wolves, but nope. Maybe about the hardship of the Alaskan Native Indians? Nope. Maybe mental health issues in the dark of Alaska? Nope. High body count? Maybe. But if I wanted to see a high body count, I would go to NYC. The acting was so-so. Even Jeffrey Wright’s performance was a little stilted, as if he were too cold to get his body to act. Instead of naming the movie “Hold the Dark”, perhaps it should have been called “Hold the Oscars”. Giving this movie a 1-star is being kind.
