The old guard has an exceptional leading cast and a strong story. It’s a good action movie to watch if you look for great fighting scenes and blood and gunshots. But, unlike most common comic based movies, this one also tells a very interesting side story of a same gender couple which hooked me even more than the main plot. With very few words and few gestures, Marwan and Luca were able to create an extremely believable and engaging relationships on screen. It was a delight to watch. The scene in the van will probably be remembered as one of the great love moments, not being cheesy or samesex oriented, but focusing on feeling per se. It looked very real rather than just a well played act. Moreover, these incredible actors brought a different type of diversity to a somewhat crowded realm of action fiction movies - they gifted the audience with their accents alongside their roles. This is one of the most diverse movies in terms of accents and backstory cultures which was not build around a typecasting or grotesquely overdoing of characters. I was very moved to see such a diversity of culture working together onscreen. So, kudos to the whole team, and Charlize holds and will always have a special place in my cinema hart, but I will be watching the sequence of this movie because of Joe’s and Nicky’s charming charismatic appeal.
